The future of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid has once again become a topic of much speculation, especially after Brazil’s decision to sack Dorival Junior.
The legendary Italian tactician has emerged as the priority target for the CBF to take over the national team heading into the FIFA World Cup in North America next year.
With Ancelotti being linked with a potential exit, it has been suggested that Real Madrid have identified Xabi Alonso as their main target to succeed him at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The former midfielder has done an exemplary job at Bayer Leverkusen in his short tenure at the club and is widely admired at Real Madrid.
Earlier this week, when Xabi Alonso made an appearance in front of the media for a press conference, there was a lot of expectation that he might reveal some important decision regarding his future.

But the Spaniard did not address the matter and was vague in his response, stating that he is focused on the season and that there is no decision to make at this point.
However, it looks like the former Real Madrid midfielder will not be making the move to the Santiago Bernabeu – at least not this summer. That is according to Simon Rolfes, Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director.
“He’s staying; he told me so. He has a contract with us,” Rolfes said after Leverkusen’s 3-1 victory over VfL Bochum (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
“In every conversation we’ve had about this season and the next, there has been good harmony between us,” Rolfes added.
With these statements, it seems increasingly clear that Alonso is focused on continuing his successful project at Leverkusen, despite the persistent rumours linking him to Real Madrid.
