The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid are ready to shift focus back towards Bayer Leverkusen star Alejandro Grimaldo amid their ongoing search for reinforcements at left-back.

That’s according to La SER, who have on Thursday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

It is of course common knowledge at this point that Real Madrid are on the lookout for fresh blood at left-back.

Florentino Pérez and co. have spent several weeks now pushing hard for a deal for first-choice target Álvaro Carreras, of Benfica.

To date, however, no agreement has been found, as Benfica continue to stand firm in their considerable demands for the 22-year-old.

And patience with this stance, as alluded to above, appears to be wearing thin at the Santiago Bernabéu.

This comes amid confirmation that Los Blancos are giving consideration to turning attentions towards an alternative left-back target.

As per a report from La SER:

‘Alejandro Grimaldo is confident that Xabi Alonso, with whom he has played in recent seasons, will call him again if the attempt to sign Carreras fails.’

With the latter’s arrival beginning to look increasingly unlikely, Real Madrid activating the Grimaldo option, in turn, looks very much on the cards.
