In a major development, Real Madrid have taken another step forward in their effort to war against the Negreira case, formally requesting access to a wide range of financial and internal documentation from Barcelona covering the period between 2010 and 2018.
Any notion of institutional harmony between Real Madrid and Barcelona is now firmly a thing of the past, with the two clubs seemingly at war.
This growing distance is clearly reflected in the ongoing judicial proceedings surrounding the payments made by the Catalan club to José María Enríquez Negreira, former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees.
After last week’s court appearance, in which the lawyer representing Real Madrid questioned Joan Laporta with a notably firm and uncomfortable line of questioning, the Merengues have now escalated their involvement.
Indeed, club officials have formally requested access to a series of documents they believe are essential to fully clarify the nature, justification and internal validation of those payments.

According to information released by Xabier Estrada, Real Madrid have requested the following:
Not stopping at that, Real Madrid have asked the courts to include a statement made by Barcelona president Laporta back in 2009 when he said:
“Real Madrid signing a former referee? I’m sure they know what they’re doing, but for us, we respect the refereeing institution and structure, they do their job well, we won’t be making any signing like that, and we don’t know that market anyway.”
Los Blancos that these words contradict the Barcelona chief’s claims that the reason they were making the payments to Negreira was for useful refereeing reports.
With this move, Real Madrid continue to press for full transparency regarding Barcelona’s financial dealings linked to the Negreira case, signalling their intention to pursue the matter exhaustively through the legal process.
