Real Madrid have made a formal move to sign Bournemouth central defender Dean Huijsen, as they try to bring in the 20-year-old Spain international. Huijsen is believed to be prioritising a move to Los Blancos over other Premier League offers.

Huijsen has been linked with Los Blancos since January, but the association between the two gained speed in March, following his Spain debut. Real Madrid were credited with strong interest in Huijsen, and he admitted that he was ‘proud’ of links to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid send contract offer to Huijsen

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have sent a contract offer to Huijsen’s camp, who have already been authorised to negotiate with Los Blancos by the player. The Italian transfer journalist asserts that Huijsen is also Real Madrid’s priority, and talks are ongoing to sign him.

Huijsen has a €60m release clause in his Bournemouth contract, but it can be paid in three instalments, something believed to be crucial for Los Blancos, who have had doubts about the price. Reports in Spain still believe that Real Madrid will try to negotiate the price down, but Huijsen’s prioritising of a move to the Bernabeu and willingness to accept a lower salary than in England are also thought to be key.

Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have all made offers for Huijsen already, but those talks have been placed on hold while Huijsen negotiates with Real Madrid. All are willing to activate the clause, and pay him handsomely.

Huijsen is part of defensive revolution

With Trent Alexander-Arnold a done deal, Los Blancos would be two thirds of the way through their transfer strategy before the Club World Cup if they can wrap up a deal for Huijsen. Real Madrid also want to bring in a left-back before they go to the United States.
