A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is being increasingly considered for a starting role in the club’s upcoming showdown with Bayern Munich.

The player in question? Ferland Mendy.

Stopper Mendy is for his part fresh off his return from yet another spell on the treatment table with an injury.

The Frenchman has rejoined the rest of Álvaro Arbeloa’s squad in group training, ahead of an imminent return to competitive action.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference on Thursday, Real Madrid’s headmaster confirmed that Mendy will play at least some part against Girona tomorrow night.

And as much could well be swiftly followed by a return to starting duties for the former Lyon standout.

As per a report from Diario AS, after Álvaro Carreras struggled in this week’s Champions League first-leg meeting with German heavyweights Bayern Munich, Mendy is being considered as a replacement for the Spaniard for the trip to the Allianz Arena.

This comes amid hopes of the latter’s superior defensive strengths slowing the electric Michael Olise.
