A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is set to sit out his country’s Euro 2024 semi-final tie.
This comes owing to developments in the showdown between Spain and Germany.
Across a pulsating 120-minute affair, from which the former ultimately emerged triumphant by two goals to one, a hefty 16 yellow cards were dished out.
And one such booking gave rise to the evening’s sole red.
After hauling down a breaking Jamal Musiala out wide, Dani Carvajal was shown a deserved 2nd yellow, and sent for an early bath.
The Real Madrid veteran will, as a result, play no part in Spain’s Euros semi-final clash, against the winners of France versus Portugal.
It now remains to be seen how boss Luis de la Fuente makes up for the absence of such a key member of his backline, with the likes of Nacho and Jesús Navas options to fill in.
