Real Madrid are off to an excellent start to the new year after taking an early lead in their La Liga return against Real Betis.
The opening goal marks an even better start to 2026 for Real Madrid's Gonzalo García, who has opened his goalscoring account in the Spanish top flight.
Following a breakout 2025 in which the 21-year-old was awarded the FIFA Club World Cup Golden Boot, scoring four goals in six matches, García was given a rare start by Xabi Alonso after Kylian Mbappé was unavailable due to injury.
García validated Alonso's decision 20 minutes into the match, when the youngster peeled away from his defender to score an unmarked header at the back-post, thanks to an excellent free-kick delivery from an in-form Rodrygo.

García continued to impress in the second-half as he controlled the ball off his chest and unleashed a stunning volley from just outside the box to double Real Madrid's lead.

After a start like this, it will be fascinating to see what 2026 has in store for Los Blancos' latest rising star!
