Real Madrid’s game later today against Real Sociedad will prove to be an emotional affair as the club bid farewell to some of their icons.
Primarily, it will be Carlo Ancelotti’s final game as the coach of Real Madrid as he will not continue until the FIFA Club World Cup, and the fans will thus turn up in great numbers to partake in the farewell event organised by the club.
Real Madrid wished to keep the event exclusively for Ancelotti, but Luka Modric’s decision to publicly share news of his departure has led to him sharing the occasion with the manager for it will also be his final game at the Santiago Bernabeu as a Real Madrid player.
Florentino Perez and Co. initially hoped to keep news of Modric’s departure a secret and reveal it only after the Club World Cup.
While that did not materialise, MARCA relays that the idea is to still do the same with Lucas Vazquez who is also set to leave the club.
It is clear that Vazquez will not continue as a Real Madrid player, more so given the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Los Blancos, however, do not wish to make it public yet and the player will have to wait until after the Club World Cup for the announcement.
The game against Real Sociedad later today will be Vazquez’s 400th game for Real Madrid and notably even his final dance at the Bernabeu.
He will travel to participate in the Club World Cup, after which it is expected that he will move to greener pastures.
The 33-year-old has made 31 league appearances for Real Madrid this season and scored one goal and provided five assists in that duration. Further, he averages 1.1 key passes per game and has created eight big chances.
