Real Madrid wrapped up 2025 in a manner that perfectly encapsulated their recent struggles: a dull victory over Sevilla accompanied by whistles and jeers at Santiago Bernabeu.
The win secured three points, but it did little to mask the poor play and defensive frailty that have defined the last two months.
With the year ending without a single trophy added to the cabinet, the pressure on manager Xabi Alonso has reached a boiling point. However, according to a report from Diario AS, the club have identified a specific timeline regarding his future.
While the two-week holiday break offers time for analysis, all signs point to Alonso remaining in charge for the upcoming Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah.
The tournament, often a turning point in recent seasons, appears set to deliver the final verdict on his tenure.
With 18 days remaining until the semi-final against Atletico Madrid, the board seems willing to wait. However, the result in Saudi Arabia will likely determine whether the Basque tactician continues or if the club opts for a change in direction.

It must be noted that Real Madrid have reportedly lined up Alvaro Arbeloa as an interim replacement in the event Alonso gets sacked.
However, the source of the problem is not necessarily Alonso. The primary concern at Valdebebas is physical, with the report highlighting that the team’s fitness levels are the biggest concern for decision-makers.
Responsibility for physical preparation was shifted from the renowned Antonio Pintus to Alonso’s own staff at the start of the campaign, a decision that is now under the microscope.
The squad’s declining physical condition has coincided with squandering a five-point lead in the league.
Despite being alive in all three competitions, the atmosphere is heavy. Fans left the stadium chanting for the players to show some fight, and with no mid-season signings expected, Alonso must find internal solutions to save his job in Jeddah.
