Real Madrid turn focus to Bundesliga star after pulling out of Konaté pursuit | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid have pivoted towards a new name amid their ongoing search for reinforcements at the back.

This of course comes fresh off Los Blancos pulling the plug on their move for Liverpool star Ibrahima Konaté.

Amid what has been an underwhelming campaign to date on the part of the Frenchman, Florentino Pérez and co. have made the definitive call not to move forward with a free agent swoop for Konaté.

This, though, does not signal the end of Real’s pursuit of fresh blood at centre-back.

In fact, quite the opposite…

As per a report from Fichajes, the board at the Santiago Bernabéu have already set sights on their updated leading target for next summer.

The player in question? Nico Schlotterbeck.

German international Schlotterbeck is widely expected to depart Borussia Dortmund in 2026, having made the call not to renew his contract terms ahead of their expiration 12 months later.

And though the competition for his services is expected to be intense, Real Madrid are ready to do what is required to ensure that the 25-year-old is at the disposal of Xabi Alonso and his staff for next season.
