Thiago Pitarch has emerged as the revelation of Real Madrid’s pre-season so far, and the academy player will travel to Tuesday’s friendly in Austria.

The 18-year-old, as a result, has been called up to the squad for the friendly against WSG Tirol, along with other talents from La Fabrica such as Diego Aguado, Roberto Martin and Daniel Yanez.

Thiago Pitarch close to renewing contract

In fact, according to Rodra on ESPN, Real Madrid intend to renew Pitarch’s contract and are close to finalising it.

Earlier this summer, the 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with Real Madrid, having initially been expected to play with Juvenil A.

Now, knocking on the first-team doors already, the exciting midfielder is set to be handed a renewal by the club.

Pitarch had been excelling with Castilla under Alvaro Arbeloa during the pre-season, and new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso decided to bring him in with the senior squad. The midfielder impressed during his first week of trials.

The technical staff were pleased with his explosiveness in pressing drills, as well as his quality and dynamism in midfield – a position in which the team is currently short of options, especially following Eduardo Camavinga’s injury that will rule him out of the La Liga opener.

Pitarch capped off his outstanding week with a goal in the training match between Real Madrid and Leganes in Valdebebas, assisted by Kylian Mbappe.

Pitarch has caught the attention of Real Madrid’s coaches with his talent, versatility (performing as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder and even winger) and work ethic.

He has overcome doubts about his physicality and in recent months he has grown taller and maintained peak condition during the summer break, following the club’s nutrition and fitness guidelines.

Inside La Fabrica, Pitarch is described as a highly dynamic midfielder, with similarities to PSG superstar Vitinha – precisely the profile Alonso’s side is lacking. He is energetic, intense, and possesses the quality to break lines through passing, dribbling, or ball carrying.

A new contract, and perhaps a semi-regular role in the first-team setup this season, seem to be on the cards for the teenage prodigy.
