Several media outlets in Turkey, as relayed by AS, are claiming that Fenerbahce are exploring the possibility of signing veteran Real Madrid defender David Alaba.

However, even though the interest is real, the deal seems almost impossible due to several key reasons.

Firstly, it is to be noted that Alaba has never hidden his admiration for Galatasaray, Fenerbahce’s biggest rival. This has been public knowledge for years.

That connection alone could cause serious backlash from Fenerbahce fans, making it a tricky fit both on and off the pitch.

Supporters may not welcome him with open arms, which creates tension before any deal is even discussed.

The financial roadblock

Secondly, the financial side of the move is a huge issue. Alaba earns around €13 million per season at Real Madrid, a salary that is far beyond what Fenerbahce can afford right now.

The Turkish club has already committed big wages to players like Milan Skriniar, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Jhon Duron.

This means, taking on another high earner like Alaba would stretch their finances to the limit, making the move highly unrealistic.

Real Madrid won’t force a move

Inside the Santiago Bernabeu, Alaba’s situation is being handled with care. The club knows he is no longer central to their future plans, but they also don’t want to push him out. Despite his high salary and injury setbacks, there is no intention of forcing him to leave.

His current contract runs until 2026, and while Madrid reportedly offered him the chance to terminate it early, the Austrian defender has declined. He wants to stay, prove his worth, and end his spell at the club on his own terms.

Real Madrid will not stop him if he wishes to move, but they won’t make the first move either. The ball is firmly in Alaba’s court.
