While Real Madrid might not make any moves in the upcoming January transfer window, the club are working behind the scenes to complete some of the deals in the summer of 2026.

The club are notably prepared to sacrifice Dani Ceballos in order to bring back Nico Paz to Santiago Bernabeu.

Similarly, there could be many more exits at Real Madrid next season, one of them being Ferland Mendy.

Real Madrid want Mendy to leave

According to a recent report from The Athletic, Real Madrid want Ferland Mendy to leave the club in the near future.

At 30 years old, Mendy’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu appears to be running out in the eyes of the board. The club hierarchy would ideally like to part ways with the French left-back this summer to make room for fresh blood and revitalise the defensive flank.

His tenure has been marked by defensive solidity but marred by recurring fitness issues, making him a candidate for a transfer.

However, there is a significant problem standing in the way of a potential exit: his contract status.

Despite their desire to sell him, Real Madrid have somewhat surprisingly extended Mendy’s deal. The renewal, which has not even been officially announced by the club, reportedly ties him to the Spanish capital until 2027 or 2028.

This could be a blow for Real Madrid, knowing Mendy could enter the final 12 months of his contract next summer, provided his contract expires in 2027.

The player, for his part, has shown absolutely no signs of wanting a move. Secure in his new contract and settled in Madrid, Mendy has no incentive to seek a transfer.

With a deal running for potentially three more years and the player content to stay, Real Madrid may face a far more difficult task in offloading a defender they no longer view as part of their long-term vision.
