Following days of silence, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has recently reacted to the comments Fiorentino Perez made during Real Madrid’s Extraordinary General Assembly last week.

In his statement, Laporta has defended Barcelona against Perez’s criticism of the club surrounding the Negreira case.

Laporta has also accused Real Madrid of trying to use Barcelona’s name for their own benefit, even stating that the team has “Barcelona-itis”.

Real Madrid’s stance on Laporta’s comments

According to COPE, Laporta’s comments and his rebuttal to Perez’s statements last week have not gone unnoticed at Real Madrid.

However, the general stance from Los Blancos is that they do not plan on responding to Laporta’s comments anytime soon.

The club believe Perez has already said what he had to during last week’s Assembly and there is now no need to drag this thing further.

This comes on the back of fresh tension between Barcelona and Real Madrid, especially in light of Perez’s comments against the Blaugrana.

Everything suggests gloves have come off between the two traditional rivals, who had walked side by side on a lot of issues in recent years.

Barcelona and Real Madrid’s shared vision for the Super League project was a major driver behind this relationship, which is now faltering thanks to the Blaugrana pivoting back towards La Liga and UEFA.

A latest indicator of Barcelona befriending La Liga was when Laporta, during his statement, criticised Real Madrid for calling out Javier Tebas.

The La Liga president has been a thorn in the side for Barcelona for years. Yet, Laporta chose to defend him, even calling him a ‘noble person’.
