Liverpool and Real Madrid lock horns at Anfield on Tuesday in one of the standout fixtures of the Champions League group phase.
Real Madrid arrive in sensational form, having won their last six matches. Xabi Alonso’s side demolished Valencia 4-0 on Saturday, with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice and Jude Bellingham continuing his resurgence.
Los Blancos boast a perfect Champions League record with three wins from three. They’ve beaten Marseille 2-1, thrashed Kairat 3-0, and secured a 1-0 victory over Juventus. With nine points, Real Madrid sit fifth in the standings.
Xabi Alonso returns to his former stomping ground with several defensive concerns. The Spanish coach will be without Antonio Rudiger and Dani Carvajal, both ruled out through injury.
Rudiger has been sidelined since September with a muscular problem and isn’t expected back until December. Carvajal suffered a serious knee injury requiring surgery that will keep him out until 2026. David Alaba remains doubtful after missing Real’s last three matches with a calf injury sustained against Getafe.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has recovered from his hamstring injury and is set to make an emotional return to Anfield. The former Liverpool vice-captain controversially left his boyhood club over the summer after refusing a new contract, joining Real Madrid in June.
Possible Real Madrid starting XI: Courtois; Alexander-Arnold, Militao, Huijsen, Carreras; Tchouameni, Camavinga; Guler, Bellingham, Vinicius Junior; Mbappe.
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Tuesday, 4th November.
