Raul Asencio has been one of the revelations of the season for Real Madrid, stepping up at the time of need when the team was struggling with injuries in the defensive department.

Having established himself in the senior setup, Asencio has now gone on to make 30 first-team appearances already and has even broken into the Spanish national team.

Naturally, Real Madrid have moved swiftly to offer him a new first-team contract, moving on from his Castilla contract, which also contained a €50 million release clause.

Asencio refused to entertain PSG offers

Now, according to AS, Asencio’s progression had caught the eyes of PSG, who tried to make a move for him a couple of months ago.

Indeed, the Ligue 1 giants were prepared to trigger his previous release clause of €50 million and offer him a bumper contract as well.

But the 22-year-old Spaniard refused to even hear to the proposal from the Parisian giants as he is fully committed to staying and succeeding at Real Madrid – the club of his childhood dreams.

New contract incoming

As per the report, Asencio was earning an annual salary of just €150,000 on his Castilla contract but Real Madrid have improved it to a little over €900,000 as part of his new first-team deal.

It will also allow him to collect title bonuses for the remainder of the season. Indeed, Asencio will retroactively receive the bonus for the Intercontinental Cup, having made a substitute appearance against Pachuca and will receive more if Real Madrid win any other titles.

However, in the summer, Real Madrid will meet with the defender’s camp again and arrange another fresh contract with a high buyout clause (no less than €500 million) and an annual salary in line with his progress and current market value.
