PSG won the UEFA Champions League as soon as Kylian Mbappe left, and the Parisians won the treble last season with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. However, a report reveals that Mbappe has an odd take on the Parisians winning Europe’s top trophy without him.

It was a tough start to the league phase for PSG, leading to them scratching and crawling their way into the knockout stage. Once the calendar turned to 2025, a new Parisian team defeated Manchester City in the league phase and marched through several Premier League clubs on their way to lifting the trophy.

The Parisians defeated Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal, then destroyed Inter Milan in the final. Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Mbappe wants to win his first Champions League, especially after seeing his former teammates winning one.

L’Equipe reported Mbappe’s take on the Parisians lifting the trophy and the French outlet notes that the player feels responsible for what transpired last season

“Among the other contenders for Europe’s most prestigious title is, of course, PSG, who captured it as soon as Mbappe left the capital,” the French media outlet wrote. “Even if that scenario and the reactions it sparked weren’t easy to digest, the Frenchman remains fatalistic about it.

“He considers, in a way, that he started the Parisian adventure and repeats, both publicly and privately, that he is happy for his friends—especially Achraf Hakimi, with whom he spent part of his vacation far from the continent, as if to truly disconnect from football, at last.
