According to a report from AS, Real Madrid are carefully assessing the situation surrounding Vinicius Jr.’s suspension following his red card in the match against Valencia.

The dismissal was a result of an incident involving Stole Dimitrievski, and the punishment could vary significantly, ranging from two to 12 games. The exact duration of the ban will depend on the specific regulations applied by the authorities.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his suspension, one thing is clear—Vinicius will be eligible to play in Real Madrid’s upcoming Copa del Rey match against Deportiva Minera.

However, it remains unclear whether Carlo Ancelotti will include him in the squad or choose to rest him for that game.

What’s latest with Vinicius?

The decision regarding Vinicius’ sanction will be delayed due to the Christmas holidays. Normally, the RFEF Disciplinary Committee convenes on Mondays, but with January 6 being a public holiday, the meeting has been pushed to Tuesday, January 7.

On this date, the Competition Committee will review the referee’s report, which was submitted after the match, and decide on the sanction.

While Real Madrid have the option to present objections before the report is reviewed, the club believes it is unlikely to sway the Committee’s decision.

It is widely anticipated that Vinicius will face the minimum suspension of two games. This expectation stems from the fact that his actions after the red card did not include direct insults or severe protests that could worsen the penalty.

Matches he can play/miss

If the two-match suspension is confirmed, Vinicius would miss La Liga clashes against Las Palmas at home on January 19 and Valladolid away on January 25.

Meanwhile, in addition to featuring in the Copa del Rey, he would also be available for the Spanish Super Cup, which includes a semi-final against Mallorca next Thursday and potentially a final against Barcelona or Athletic Club on Sunday.

Real Madrid plan to appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal if the suspension feels unjustified. While the Disciplinary Committee relies strictly on the referee’s report, the Court of Appeal has a broader scope.

It considers video evidence, which Real Madrid hope will demonstrate flaws in how VAR official Muniz Ruiz presented the incident to the referee, Soto Grado, during the match.
