Earlier in the season, Barcelona players, including Marcus Rashford, were victims of racial slurs thrown at them during an away game against Real Oviedo.
Now, the National Police have successfully identified a Real Oviedo fan as the alleged perpetrator of a racist insult directed at Rashford, reports AS.
The disgraceful incident occurred at the Carlos Tartiere stadium. In the 31st minute of the match, as the English player was preparing to take a corner kick, the spectator allegedly shouted “Rashford, you n***er” at him.
Following an official complaint filed by La Liga, the Provincial Information Brigade of Oviedo launched an investigation.
Analysis of the stadium’s security camera footage, provided by the Organisational Control Unit, proved crucial in identifying the fan.

The individual is now being investigated for a crime against moral integrity and a hate crime. After giving a statement at the police station, the incident was reported to the Oviedo Court of Instruction Number 1.
The consequences for the fan could be severe as well. The Public Prosecutor’s Office for the Protection of Equality and Against Discrimination has been informed, as these offences can carry sentences of up to three years in prison.
Furthermore, the fan has been recommended for administrative sanctions under the 2007 Law against violence, racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in sport.
This carries separate penalties, including fines of up to €60,000 and a ban from all sports venues.
This marks yet another concerning chapter for La Liga, who continue to falter in their endeavours to put a stop to growing racism in stadiums across Spain.
