The second game of the Coachella Valley Invitational for the Los Angeles Galaxy saw twice the scoring. Yet, the result was the same: another tie.
On Sunday, hours before the NFL's Super Bowl, the LA Galaxy and Charlotte FC ended the game in a draw. That puts the reigning Western Conference champs at 0-0-2 at the Invitational.
Keepers John McCarthy and Brady Scott did not play. Novak Micovic started, and JT Marcinkowski came in at the 64th minute.
The starting backline of Miki Yamane, Carlos Garces, Maya Yoshida and John Nelson took the field on defense for the Starting XI. After the LA Galaxy gave up a goal at the 15th minute, Yoshida responded nine minutes later. Midfielder Diego Fagundez was credited with the assist.
Newcomers Zanka and Sean Davis both subbed in and saw action on Sunday. Fellow newcomer Elijah Wynder started alongside Fagundez and Ruben Ramos, Jr. at midfield.
Charlotte scored at the 68th minute off of a penalty kick. Forward Miguel Berry responded 60 seconds later as he found the back of the net, too. That put the game at 2-2.
The six-time MLS champions play again in Indio, California against Minnesota United FC. This is a rematch of the MLS Western Conference Semifinals that saw the Los Angeles Galaxy win 6-2.
The game will be played at 11:00 a.m. PT and 2:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, February 12. The fourth and final preseason match for the Galaxy is on Saturday, February 15 when they face off against the Chicago Fire.
Last season, the Los Angeles Galaxy experienced a rare loss to an Eastern Conference team. They lost 2-1 at Soldier Field on June 1.
That defeat ended a six-game unbeaten streak. However, the Galaxy would embark on a four-game win streak following the blunder in Chicago.
Following the Coachella Invitational, the Los Angeles Galaxy will open up their title defense and season on Sunday, February 23. They will host San Diego FC at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
