The women’s Brasileirão third-round derby between Botafogo and Flamengo started almost half an hour late after the refereeing team were stuck in Rio de Janeiro traffic on Friday, delaying the match at Nilton Santos.
The match had been scheduled for 19:00 Brasília time, but play only began at 19:26. According to Globo.com, sportv cameras caught match delegate Rafael Moura informing the captains about the issue with five minutes to go, as both teams waited at the tunnel.
Flamengo captain Djeni questioned whether the players were being told only as they were about to enter the pitch.
The appointed officials were referee Deborah Cecília Cruz Correia with assistants Nayra da Cunha Nunes and Juliana Martins Gomes, and Juliana had to be replaced for the game to start. The match only began once replacements Rodrigo Carvalhaes and Beatriz Gearldine arrived at Nilton Santos.
The CBF later suspended, on a preventative basis, the two referees who arrived late, saying they had not reported the problem in advance. Jenifer Alves and Nayra Cunha were punished.
Botafogo and Flamengo drew 1-1, Rebeca scored for the hosts and Layza Cavalcanti equalised for the visitors.
