Régis Le Bris says Dan Neil could leave Sunderland this week after the midfielder missed the 3-1 defeat at the London Stadium.
According to Sunderland Echo, Neil had a minor muscle issue and, with a move progressing, all parties agreed not to risk him. Le Bris noted his contract has entered its final six months.
He said nothing was official and that something might happen in the next few days. Rangers are among the clubs keen, with Sheffield United also linked. West Ham United have been reported to be plotting a move, and Ipswich Town are believed to be interested.
It is set to be a busy final week for Sunderland, with Neil likely one of several departures. Left back Arthur Masuaku is on the brink of a loan to RC Lens, with a deal agreed and a medical expected within 24 hours. The Black Cats still want at least one addition before the window shuts an hour before Burnley visit the Stadium of Light on two February.
West Ham boss Nuno said his side are still looking to add, without naming positions. Midfielder Guido Rodríguez was left out as he closes in on a move to Valencia, which could push the Hammers back into the market. He added there is one week to assess, and that the squad needs rebalancing with more options.
