Manchester City will aim for a major overhaul of the best starting eleven across the next two transfer windows, it has been anticipated.
The latest update comes as Pep Guardiola and his current Manchester City squad continue to struggle with their cross-competition form, losing nine matches in their last 12 outings across the Carabao Cup, Premier League, and UEFA Champions League.
There is no doubting that Guardiola and his staff have been heavily impacted by injuries and fitness issues hampering the squad, but in turn the down-turn in individual performances from the more ageing stars and players simply not stepping up has created more issues.
As such, many within the game believe this current edition of the Etihad Stadium’s roster has simply reached the end of its time, and there is a desire to bring about a new generation of the squad led by Pep Guardiola in the next two years of his contract.
And one new claim from one of the sport’s best-regarded journalists has indicated that there could be as many as six major incomings into Pep Guardiola’s squad, with the same amount exiting the first-team picture.
That is according to the information of reporter Guillem Balague, who claims that there are likely to be at least 12 major transfers centred around Manchester City’s main first-team line-up across the 2025 transfer windows.
“I’ve got a very clear idea that they will want to get rid of five or six regular starters for Manchester City and bring five or six new starts for Manchester City,” Balague explained on his YouTube channel.
He continued, “Half of the 11, the one that you will decide is the best 11, I think will go and half will come. It’s a new era, it’s the end of this one, and it’s a new era starting. The cycle is over.”
For now, it remains to be seen whether any work will be done during the upcoming January transfer window, with the club already moving to inform the media of their lack of intent when it comes to Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes in particular.
Reports had been growing across the industry speculating that the Premier League champions could try their luck with a bid for either of the two central midfield stars, but it is now understood that there is a lack of belief that either player will be available.
Pep Guardiola has recently discussed the challenges that come with the January market, as he told a recent media conference on the possibility of Manchester City entering the window for reinforcements, “But it’s not easy.”
The Catalan tactician continued, “Teams don’t sell, they have to be players that maybe don’t play, or the ones they don’t want to sell they are so expensive, so it depends on the market, it depends on situations, we will see.”
