Apart from having to deal with the 0-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid last night, FC Barcelona were handed an injury scare.

Key midfielder Pedri was substituted at half-time by manager Hansi Flick, and it later emerged that the Spaniard was hooked off due to discomfort in his hamstring area.

It sent alarm bells ringing, considering the 22-year-old superstar has had multiple injury-related absences this season and losing him for an extended period in the final phase of the season could be detrimental to Barcelona.

No injury to Pedri

However, providing an update on the matter, Jijantes FC reports that Pedri has no injury and that no medical tests were conducted on him today by the club’s staff.

The decision to take him off against Atletico Madrid last night was purely precautionary to avoid any risks because of slight muscle discomfort.

It will come as a major relief for Barça, considering that Pedri is a pivotal member of the team and will be needed for their upcoming matches.

Later this week, the Blaugrana face off against neighbours and bitter rivals RCD Espanyol in the Catalan derby.

A few days after that, they will travel to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Atletico Madrid.

If Barcelona are to overturn the two-goal deficit from the first leg and progress to the semi-finals of the competition, Pedri’s presence will be crucial.

As such, fans will now breathe a huge sigh of relief following the emergence of information that Pedri does not have any injury.

So far this season, Pedri has played 35 matches across all competitions, scoring two and assisting ten goals. He has also missed 12 games in all competitions, some of which were because of a hamstring injury.
