According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Stade Rennais have entered discussions with Olympique de Marseille for midfielder Ismaël Koné (22).

The Canadian international became the first signing in a summer revamp for Les Phocéens when he left Watford FC for a reported €12 million fee. He was shortly followed by Lilian Brassier (25) who joined Marseille from Stade Brestois. In a twist of fate, Koné could follow Brassier in arriving at Rennes this winter.

Rennes interested in bringing Ismaël Koné on loan

Romano writes that Koné could arrive on a loan deal like Brassier, with Rennes sporting director Frederic Massara pushing for the transfer. However, Les Rouge et Noirs face some competition for the former Championship player. Fiorentina and Valencia are also interested in bringing Koné away from Marseille during the ongoing transfer window.

Rennes who sit 16th in the table have been active this window as they look to bolster their squad and escape a relegation battle that they have slipped into.
