Ajax appear to have pulled off a shrewd piece of business with the impending arrival of 23-year-old Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros on loan. According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, a verbal agreement has been reached between all parties, and only medical checks and formal paperwork now stand between Jaros and a move to the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The Czech goalkeeper, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young stoppers, is moving without an option to buy—underscoring Liverpool’s continued belief in his long-term potential. As Verweij notes, “Liverpool will shortly enter into discussions with the management of their third goalkeeper about breaking open, upgrading and extending the contract of Jaros, who is currently tied to Anfield Road until mid-2026.”
Jaros has already had a taste of Premier League action. On 5 October 2024, he came off the bench for the injured Alisson Becker against Crystal Palace and helped Liverpool maintain a 1–0 lead. His next chance came in the League Cup, where Arne Slot gave him a full 90 minutes against Brighton in a 3–2 defeat.
Though appearances have been limited, his performances have not gone unnoticed. His loan to Ajax has reportedly come at the recommendation of John Heitinga, the former Liverpool assistant now in charge at Ajax. The move represents a strategic decision for all involved.

Both clubs will see clear benefits here. For Ajax, Jaros offers high-quality goalkeeping depth with top-level training under his belt. For Liverpool, the Czech international will gain valuable game time at a club competing in the Champions League and sharing a similar footballing philosophy. As Verweij writes, “Liverpool sees Ajax as a suitable club because of their participation in the Champions League and similar football visions.”
This convergence of ideologies between Arne Slot and Heitinga, both shaped in part by their time in English football, creates a nurturing environment for Jaros to flourish.
The medical is scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday, and if all goes to plan, Jaros will soon be wearing the iconic Ajax shirt. His task? To prove he can be more than a promising backup and potentially take on a leading role—now or in the near future.
For Liverpool, his progress in Amsterdam will be monitored closely. With a contract extension in the works, the Reds clearly have long-term plans for Jaros. This loan, then, is more than just a temporary switch—it’s a litmus test for what’s to come.
For Liverpool supporters, this loan makes a lot of sense. Vitezslav Jaros has long been whispered about as a standout talent within the academy ranks. Now 23, he needs minutes at a competitive level to progress. Ajax, with their Champions League pedigree and emphasis on youth, is arguably the ideal destination.
What’s encouraging is that there’s no buy option. Liverpool clearly want Jaros back and are looking to secure his future with an extended and upgraded deal. This suggests they view him as a legitimate contender for the No.2 spot behind Alisson.
Heitinga’s endorsement carries weight too. If a former Anfield insider believes Jaros is ready to contribute at Ajax, that should speak volumes to fans. There’s a clear pathway here: regular first-team football in a high-pressure environment, a potential return with added experience, and the chance to push for serious minutes in Liverpool red.
If Jaros impresses in Amsterdam, don’t be surprised to see him in the Liverpool squad more often next season—perhaps even as the long-term heir to Alisson.
