Atletico Madrid have accelerated their pursuit of Bernardo Silva and appear to be closing in on a deal for the Manchester City midfielder, dealing a significant blow to Juventus’s hopes of landing the Portuguese international this summer.

According to Marca, as reported by Alfredo Pedullà, the 31-year-old is increasingly convinced that Atletico represent the best destination for the next chapter of his career following his decision to leave the Etihad Stadium.

The Spanish club are prepared to include a signing bonus in their offer in a final push to make Silva one of their highest-paid players, a gesture designed to tip the balance decisively in their favour.

The development is a major setback for Juventus, who had been heavily linked with Silva and were hoping to use Champions League qualification, if it can be secured on the final day of the season, as a key selling point in their approach.

Comolli had been personally leading negotiations in an attempt to convince the Portuguese star to choose Turin, with an offer of €8 million per season until 2028 reported to have been tabled.

Atletico’s move puts them firmly in pole position. Silva had previously been linked with Barcelona and had attracted interest from several top European clubs since confirming his City exit, but Atletico’s project under Diego Simeone, and the added incentive of a signing bonus, appears to have proved the most persuasive argument.
