Celtic are reportedly keen on signing Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. The Scottish Champions want to add quality to their ranks before the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and may look to Pep Guardiola’s side in the hunt for reinforcements.

As reported by Pete O’Rourke and Celts Are Here’s Mark Hendry, Celtic are in the mix with English Championship sides for the signature of the 19-year-old.

Although the report from this evening suggests that Celtic have made a formal approach for the central defender.

The defender, who has six first team appearances to his name, is highly rated at City and they’ve invested time in the academy product. The City website are very complimentary about the player.

“The centre-back is a calm, graceful and towering defender who has been at City since he was eight years old and has perfected his craft since his first training session a decade ago.

“Simpson-Pusey fits the City mould. The teenager can showcase his strength when defending but also has a sharp eye for initiating attacks with clinical forward passing.”

Celtic have signed a number of defenders from Man City in the past, including Jason Denayer, Dedryck Boyata and Jeremie Frimpong. While the latter two players were signed on permanent deals, Celtic fans will understandably be disappointed that the club are dipping into the loan market at this stage of the window.

The rumour from Como was that Celtic wanted to add two wingers, a striker and a central defender before the window closes. Brendan would likely be happy to get the attacking reinforcements into the squad before looking at defensive additions. Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers will likely be the central pairing with Liam Scales, Dane Murray and Stephen Welsh supplementing the backline.
