The Emirates club have decided against triggering an extension for the Scotland Internationalist, meaning he will leave in the summer.

KT free to sign a pre-contact in January

According to Sun Sport, Celtic are interested in making a move to re-sign the fullback next month. Celtic can sign the player on a pre-contract ahead of a move next summer but could even return to Celtic on loan.

Celtic are believed to be favourites to sign Tierney, who has previously voiced his intention to return to his boyhood club. The issue is that Tierney is on a high weekly wage, believed to be in excess of £100k-per-week. Tierney is still in the prime of his career but given his injury concerns of recent years, some clubs may be unwilling to offer him a longterm deal.

Statement of Intent

Celtic, meanwhile, could see the return of Tierney as a statement signing of their intention to continue thriving. Tierney would also provide a solution to the impending left back issue given that Alex Valle’s loan will end as well as Greg Taylor’s contract ending.

It is certainly a story to keep an eye on. Hopefully, in a few weeks there will be a clearer picture of whether or not KT will return to the club.
