Besiktas made clear they would not move beyond their limit and, for now, negotiations have been suspended rather than fully abandoned.

That hesitation has created a significant opening. Trabzonspor, sensing an opportunity, have stepped in with real intent. Reports now suggest the remaining issues are relatively minor, which indicates that the broad framework of a deal may already be in place.

If completed, this would represent one of the boldest transfer interventions the Süper Lig has seen in recent years. Salah’s standing in the game needs little explanation. Since leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, there has been an expectation that his next club would come with major financial power and global profile. Trabzonspor entering that conversation, and potentially winning it, would carry obvious significance in Turkey and beyond.

There is, however, an important note of caution. Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has publicly dismissed the claims on more than one occasion. That contradiction does not automatically weaken the story. Senior figures often downplay live negotiations, particularly when finances are delicate and public expectation can shift the atmosphere around a deal. What matters more is whether the numbers can be made to work.

Besiktas had already shown the scale required. Any agreement from Trabzonspor would likely need to match or better a package worth around €12 million annually including bonuses, almost certainly with meaningful external backing. That is a sizeable commitment for any club in the division.

From a Liverpool perspective, this story lands with unusual force. Salah’s exit already marked the end of one of the club’s defining modern chapters. Even so, there is something different about seeing the next stage of his career take shape through competing offers, paused talks and shifting leverage. It makes the separation feel final in a way that official announcements rarely do.

Nothing has been signed, Besiktas have not fully withdrawn, and Salah has not delivered a final answer. All of that keeps the door open to further movement. But in transfer situations, timing matters, and right now the direction of travel appears to have changed.

Trabzonspor have emerged as serious contenders for Mohamed Salah, and until the landscape shifts again, they look to have seized control of one of the summer’s most unexpected transfer battles.

As Liverpool supporters, this is the kind of update that hits harder than many of us would like to admit. We all knew the day would come when Mohamed Salah would move on, but knowing it in theory and feeling it in reality are two very different things. He gave us so many moments that felt eternal, goals, records, title pushes, nights at Anfield that shook the ground, and now we are reading about his next club being decided in a negotiation battle in Turkey.

There is no bitterness in that, only emotion. Salah has earned the right to choose whatever comes next. If Trabzonspor pull this off, it will be a huge moment for them and a reminder of how magnetic Salah remains, even after leaving Liverpool. Any club signing him is getting more than a superstar name, they are getting a relentless winner who carried this club through huge periods of change.

For Liverpool fans, there will be sadness, naturally. There will also be pride. We watched one of the greatest players in the club’s history wear our shirt and redefine standards.
