Lazio and Fiorentina are reportedly considering a swap deal involving Christos Mandas and David De Gea.

Christos Mandas Returns to Lazio After Forgettable Bournemouth Experience

In January, Bournemouth acquired the Greek goalkeeper on loan for €2.5 million with an option to buy for €17.5 million. However, the 24-year-old didn’t make a single appearance for the Cherries during his six months at Vitality Stadium, as Adani Iraola kept faith in Djordje Petkovic.

Therefore, Mandas is expected to return to Rome in the summer, but perhaps not for long, as Lazio are still keen to cash in on his services, and instead focus on Edoardo Motta, who has been a revelation since replacing the injured Ivan Provedel in March. The experienced Italian shot-stopper is also on his way out, with Inter Milan reportedly confident about signing him.

Lazio & Fiorentina Could Swap De Gea & Mandas

According to Il Tirreno (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Mandas has a serious suitor in Fiorentina, who could offer De Gea in exchange for his younger counterpart. The 35-year-old is a Manchester United legend who spent 12 years at Old Trafford before leaving the club in 2023. The Spaniard had a year-long hiatus before resuming his career in Florence in 2024.

De Gea was a key figure in the Viola’s troublesome campaign. He made 46 appearances in all competitions, conceding 59 goals and registering 13 clean sheets. His contract with Fiorentina is valid until June 2028, and it includes an additional one-year option.

Why Lazio Would Struggle to Sign De Gea

As the Florentine source explains, the suggested swap deal remains a mere idea at this stage. But it should be noted that the Tuscan club is trying to get rid of De Gea due to his relatively high salary (5.5 million per year), a figure that Lazio certainly cannot afford. Therefore, the Spaniard’s other suitors, Juventus and Inter Milan, remain more plausible destinations.
