Liverpool Injury Update: Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez Facing Extended Absences

Squad Depth Tested Ahead of Champions League Clash with PSG

Liverpool approach the most crucial phase of their season with injury concerns mounting, as both Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez remain sidelined. Arne Slot’s team have been in imperious form domestically, sitting comfortably at the Premier League summit after their 2-0 win over Newcastle. However, with a decisive Champions League showdown against Paris Saint-Germain on the horizon, the squad’s depth will be tested.

Liverpool’s European campaign has been built on dominance, and expectations are high. Slot’s men have been one of the most well-balanced sides in the tournament, but facing PSG in the French capital presents a stern test. While the absence of key players won’t derail their ambitions, it adds an extra layer of complexity to their preparations.

Bradley Ruled Out with No Clear Return Date

Although Trent Alexander-Arnold remains the undisputed first-choice right-back, Conor Bradley’s emergence has been one of the success stories of Liverpool’s season. The Northern Ireland international has proven himself an able deputy, offering Slot a reliable alternative when rotation is required.

However, Bradley sustained a muscle injury in Liverpool’s victory over Aston Villa last month and has since been ruled out for “a few weeks.” Slot confirmed the defender’s absence in the build-up to the Newcastle fixture.

“Conor Bradley isn’t OK,” the Liverpool boss said. “He is out for a few weeks. It is clear that he went off with a muscle injury, and it will take a while before he is back.”

With no firm return date set, Liverpool will be hoping that Bradley can recover in time for the latter stages of the Champions League campaign, should they progress past PSG.

Gomez’s Setback Further Depletes Defensive Options

Joe Gomez’s season has been punctuated by frustrating injury setbacks, and his latest hamstring issue has once again disrupted his rhythm. The defender initially suffered the problem in December’s clash against West Ham but made a brief return for the FA Cup tie against Plymouth, only to break down again after a sprint early in the match.

Slot provided an update on the situation, confirming Gomez will be absent for an extended period.

“He is going to be out for a number of weeks because of a hamstring injury,” he said. “It’s a big blow for Joe and for us. He tries everything to be with the team. He works really hard to come back, and then first game when he came back, after two or three minutes we saw him making a sprint, and now he is out for weeks again.”

Liverpool’s defensive ranks have been stretched at times this season, and Gomez’s absence is another reminder of the demands placed on Slot’s squad.

Liverpool’s Depth Key to Navigating Injury Challenges

While neither Bradley nor Gomez are automatic starters, their absence reduces Liverpool’s flexibility, particularly as the fixtures pile up. The Reds have managed injuries well throughout the campaign, with Slot rotating effectively to maintain momentum in both the league and Europe.

However, with PSG looming and the intensity of the season only increasing, Liverpool will be hoping that these setbacks do not hinder their pursuit of silverware on multiple fronts.
