Liverpool and Manchester United are among several Premier League clubs closely monitoring Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu following an impressive run of performances in Serie A.
Interest in the France international was first highlighted in Mark Brus’ Daily Briefing for Caught Offside, where it was revealed that both clubs have recently sent scouts to watch the 25 year old in action.
The feedback from those scouting missions has reportedly been encouraging.
“United and Liverpool have had scouts watch Kalulu play recently and the feedback has been very positive,” one source told Brus.
Kalulu has developed into a dependable and versatile defender during his time in Italy. Comfortable at both centre back and right back, he fits the modern defensive profile valued by many top European clubs. His performances have attracted growing attention from England.

For Liverpool, the situation is part of a broader evaluation of defensive depth and long term planning.
Virgil van Dijk remains a central figure at Anfield, though he is set to turn 35 this summer. Meanwhile, questions around Ibrahima Konate’s future continue to circulate. Liverpool’s recruitment team are therefore understood to be exploring options that could strengthen the defensive unit over the coming seasons.
Sources indicate that the club’s interest in Kalulu could intensify regardless of Konate’s situation.
“We can also expect Liverpool to step up their interest, whether or not they lose Ibrahima Konate,” another source explained.
Liverpool have previously demonstrated a willingness to move early for players identified as strong long term fits, particularly when defensive transitions appear on the horizon.
Manchester United are also assessing Kalulu as part of their defensive recruitment planning.
The club is believed to be reviewing a range of centre back options ahead of future transfer windows. Kalulu is among the players being considered.
“United are looking at a long list of options and Kalulu is one they really like,” a source said.
As with Liverpool, any move would depend on several factors including squad priorities, transfer budgets, and Juventus’ stance on a potential departure.
Juventus currently have little incentive to sell. Kalulu remains under contract until 2029, placing the Italian club in a strong negotiating position.
However, sustained interest from Premier League sides could become significant if the player becomes open to a move.
In addition to Liverpool and Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa have also been credited with monitoring the defender.
At present, no formal offers have been reported. The situation remains one to watch as clubs continue their scouting assessments and transfer planning ahead of future windows.
From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, the reported interest in Pierre Kalulu makes sense within the club’s wider squad planning.
Liverpool have traditionally been at their strongest when recruitment looks several years ahead rather than reacting to immediate problems. With Virgil van Dijk approaching the latter stages of his career, identifying potential successors or partners at centre back is an essential part of long term planning.
Kalulu’s versatility stands out. A defender capable of operating both centrally and at right back would give Liverpool useful tactical flexibility, particularly across a long Premier League and Champions League campaign.
Supporters will also note that the club has shown a consistent pattern when targeting players. Initial scouting reports often appear months before any serious move develops. Hearing that the feedback has been “very positive” suggests Liverpool’s recruitment department are conducting the type of due diligence fans have come to trust.
Competition from Manchester United will naturally add intrigue. When both clubs track the same player, negotiations can quickly become complicated.
Liverpool supporters will ultimately hope that if Kalulu is identified as a genuine target, the club act decisively. Strengthening the defensive line before any major decline occurs has historically been one of Liverpool’s most effective transfer strategies.
