From a Liverpool fan perspective, this report brings as many doubts as it does excitement. Mbaye may well be a huge talent, but being “offered” to Liverpool is not the same as Liverpool moving seriously for him. Supporters have seen plenty of names circulate in windows like this, especially when agents are testing the market.

The line that stands out most is that “neither currently view him as one of their leading winger targets.” That feels like the real story. If Liverpool truly believed Mbaye was the answer, the conversation would probably look very different. Instead, this reads like a player with ambition, strong representation and obvious quality being placed in front of top clubs in the hope that one of them bites.

There is also the Aston Villa element. It is understandable for a young player to back himself, but rejecting one project because it does not match “elite potential” can come across as premature. Liverpool need hungry players ready to earn their place, not just players and entourages focused on status.

If the club do move, fans will trust the recruitment process. But at this stage, Barcola feels like the more convincing storyline, and Mbaye looks more like a watchlist name than a priority one. Until that changes, it is hard to get carried away.
