Marc Cucurella’s Chelsea future has moved firmly into the summer transfer conversation, with Caught Offside reporting that the Spanish left-back believes his time at Stamford Bridge is “coming to an end”.
That is a significant line in a market already expected to test Chelsea’s resolve. Cucurella, valued in the region of €50-55m, remains under contract until 2029, giving Chelsea a strong negotiating position. However, Caught Offside claim the club “has accepted Cucurella’s desire to leave and is ready to sanction a move if the right offer arrives this summer.”
Manchester United are among the clubs watching developments closely, alongside Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
For United, now managed by Michael Carrick, the interest makes sense. Cucurella offers intensity, experience and tactical flexibility on the left side. His ability to play as an aggressive full-back, a wing-back, or even tuck inside when required, would appeal to a side seeking greater control and balance.
Caught Offside report that “Manchester United and Manchester City are closely following developments,” which suggests this is not yet a formal pursuit but one that could accelerate depending on price and player preference.
Cucurella’s ideal outcome appears to be a return to Spain. The report states that “Cucurella’s priority is understood to be a return to Barcelona,” although that route is far from straightforward.
Barcelona’s financial restrictions remain a major issue, particularly around registration guarantees. Atlético Madrid may be better placed to move, with Caught Offside reporting that Atleti are “preparing to open formal talks with Chelsea” and would prefer “a loan deal with a purchase option.”
Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation, although it remains unclear whether they would move decisively at Chelsea’s current valuation.

Chelsea’s stance is clear enough. Xabi Alonso’s squad planning at Stamford Bridge appears to include room for a sale, but not a cut-price departure.
A €50-55m valuation is substantial for a full-back, especially one whose form at Chelsea has had peaks and difficult spells. Yet Cucurella’s profile, age and contract length give Chelsea leverage.
The player, meanwhile, is taking a measured approach. Caught Offside report that he “has instructed his agents not to update him during Spain’s World Cup campaign,” preferring to wait until after the tournament before finalising his decision.
For Manchester United, the question is whether they see Cucurella as a priority or an opportunity. If Barcelona cannot act, Atlético cannot meet Chelsea’s demands and Real Madrid remain passive, Old Trafford could become a serious destination.
From a Manchester United perspective, this is exactly the kind of report that creates interest without yet demanding excitement.
Cucurella would not be a glamour signing in the traditional sense, but he would be a very Carrick-style addition. He is competitive, technically secure and comfortable in different systems. That matters for a United side still trying to build structure, not simply collect names.
The concern is the price. At €50-55m, United would need to be convinced he is not merely an upgrade, but a long-term solution. There is also the Barcelona factor. If Cucurella’s heart is set on returning there, United cannot afford another transfer chase where they become leverage in someone else’s negotiation.
Still, there is a strong football argument. United have lacked consistency at left-back and Cucurella’s energy could help restore aggression and width. Under Carrick, a player with his tactical intelligence could be useful, especially in matches where United need to build play cleanly rather than rely on transition football.
If Chelsea soften their stance, or if a structured deal becomes possible, United should be alert. Not desperate, not emotional, but alert. This could become one of those moves that looks understated in June and important by October.
