Newly appointed Napoli boss Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly planning a summer bid for Milan star Adrien Rabiot. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 58-year-old is looking to make the Frenchman one of his marquee signings.
Milan sacked Massimiliano Allegri shortly after the end of the season, as the Rossoneri failed to secure a coveted return to the UEFA Champions League. Despite his disappointing season at San Siro, the former Juventus coach has already found a new club, with Napoli appointing him as Antonio Conte’s heir.
On the other hand, Allegri convinced Milan to sign Rabiot from Marseille last summer, having previously worked with the 31-year-old at Juventus. Indeed, they have developed a strong bond over the years, and it’s no wonder Conte’s successor wants his protege to follow in his footsteps this summer.
Rabiot signed a three-year contract at San Siro upon arrival last summer. Furthermore, he has quickly cemented his place in the starting lineup, overtaking both Samuele Ricci and Youssouf Fofana in the pecking order.
The ex-Paris Saint-Germain star made 29 Serie A appearances in his first season at Milan, tallying six goals and five assists. Therefore, it would likely take a substantial offer to persuade the Rossoneri to let him go.
However, Allegri is Rabiot’s long-term admirer, and with Napoli set to part ways with several midfielders, the Partenopei could soon test Milan’s resolve with a formal approach for the French ace. Meanwhile, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Elif Elmas are set to leave the Diego Maradona Stadium, thus opening space for Rabiot.
