It’s now a near-certainty that the ‘Special One’ will take over from Alvaro Arbeloa at the end of the season. Indeed, 13 years after leaving the Santiago Bernabeu, Mourinho seems to be on his way back, with his appointment already looking like a mere formality.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are set to sever ties with several long-serving defenders.
