Flamengo have sacked head coach Filipe Luís in the early hours of Tuesday after an 8-0 win over Madureira.
According to Coluna Do Fla, tensions between Filipe Luís and president Bap date back to 2019, when Luiz Eduardo Baptista was part of a political “conselhinho” created to back then president Rodolfo Landim.
As a senior figure in the 2019 squad, Filipe Luís barred Bap and that group from behind-the-scenes areas, stating that political actors were not welcome at the training ground, team hotel and dressing room.
Bap won the club presidency at the end of 2024, defeating a slate backed by Landim, yet he did not move to dismiss the coach as Filipe Luís had just lifted the Copa do Brasil.
In 2025 Flamengo won the Campeonato Brasileiro, the Campeonato Carioca and the Copa Libertadores, leaving little scope to make a change. In 2026 the stance shifted and the president opted to remove him.
After the match, Filipe Luís held his press conference as normal. At 01:01 Brasília time on Tuesday 3 he was informed by José Boto that he would not continue, following Bap’s decision.
