On Monday, FC Barcelona announced the signing of teenage left-back Patricio Pacifico from Uruguayan club Defensor Sporting.
The 19-year-old defensive starlet has joined on a six-month loan deal until the end of the season, with the Catalans retaining a permanent buy option for him.
Pacifico will become a part of the Barça Atletic squad under Juliano Belletti, much like other young January arrivals – Juwensley Onstein and Hamza Abdelkarim.
Now, Uruguayan outlet Referi (h/t Mundo Deportivo) has shed light on the conditions that, if met, will compel Barcelona sign Patricio Pacifico on a permanent transfer.
As per the report, the purchase option in the agreement between the Blaugrana and Defensor Sporting can become mandatory and automatically executed under certain conditions.

This would occur if Pacifico plays ten matches of at least 30 minutes with the reserve team under Belletti between now and the end of the season.
Alternatively, the permanent buy clause could become automatic if he is fielded for at least 45 minutes in a match with the Catalans’ first team.
If either of those conditions are met, Barcelona will be compelled to sign the Uruguayan left-back, who can also play at centre-back, on a permanent transfer.
While Barcelona have kept the terms of the deal quiet, they can acquire 80% of the defender’s rights permanently from Defensor for a fee of €3 million, a figure that could rise to €3.8 million depending on specific variables.
It would also mean that the Uruguayan club would get 20% of any transfer fee that Barça receive for a future sale of the young left-back.
