Tottenham’s dramatic escape from relegation may yet become the moment that reshaped the club’s direction. After a season of anxiety, frustration and instability, attention has already turned towards what comes next under Roberto De Zerbi, with Manchester City duo Savinho and James Trafford emerging as central targets in the rebuild.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are again exploring a move for Savinho after failing to secure the Brazilian winger last summer. There is a different context now. Tottenham are no longer pitching themselves as a club chasing the Champions League places, instead they are attempting to restore identity and credibility after a bruising campaign.
Savinho remains an intriguing talent despite limited impact at Manchester City. Two league goals in 52 appearances is hardly the return expected from a player valued at around £60million, yet those figures only tell part of the story. At City, opportunities are scarce and patience can quickly wear thin when competing with elite attacking depth.

The Brazilian still possesses qualities Spurs have lacked for much of the season, direct running, unpredictability and the confidence to isolate defenders in wide areas. De Zerbi’s attacking structure relies heavily on technical wide players who can carry possession into dangerous zones, and Savinho fits that profile naturally.
“Tottenham are rekindling interest in a £60million move for Manchester City winger Savinho as they draw up plans for a summer rebuild after escaping relegation on the final day of the Premier League season.”
There is risk attached to the fee, especially given his modest output, but Spurs are buying potential as much as production. At 22, there remains a feeling that his best football has not yet arrived.
Interest in James Trafford perhaps says even more about Tottenham’s priorities. The club’s hierarchy have reportedly decided that leadership and mentality must become central to recruitment again.
Trafford has built a reputation as one of England’s most composed young goalkeepers. Calm under pressure, vocal in organisation and technically polished, he looks suited to De Zerbi’s demands for building from the back.

The interest in experienced figures such as Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi reinforces the sense that Tottenham want stronger personalities throughout the dressing room.
For Spurs supporters, that may be the most encouraging aspect of all.
The pursuit of Savinho feels ambitious but understandable. Spurs lacked excitement in forward areas throughout the season and too often looked predictable when games became tense. Savinho brings speed, flair and the willingness to take risks, which supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium always appreciate.
There will naturally be concerns about the price tag. Spending £60million on a player with only two Premier League goals carries obvious pressure. Yet many Spurs fans would argue that context matters. Manchester City’s system can suffocate young attackers because every mistake is magnified and rotation disrupts rhythm. Under De Zerbi, Savinho could become far more expressive.
The Trafford links may actually excite supporters even more. Tottenham have needed authority at the back for several seasons. A goalkeeper who commands his area and communicates confidently could improve the entire defensive structure. Trafford also fits the profile of a player who can grow with the project rather than serve as a short term fix.
Most Spurs fans will probably accept that this summer needs balance. Young technical talents alone will not change the culture after a relegation battle. That is why the reported interest in experienced players matters too. Robertson and Senesi would add edge, personality and leadership.
After surviving by such fine margins, Tottenham cannot afford another reactive transfer window. This rebuild has to be smarter, tougher and more coherent than previous attempts.
