A report in the Italian media explains why signing Mario Hermoso on a free transfer would be the ideal choice for Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri have received a significant blow in the last few days with Tajon Buchanan suffering a serious injury.

The Canadian fractured his tibia while on international duty. He already went under the knife and his recovery path will require a period between four and five months.

Over the last 48 hours, new reports have been linking Inter with a like-to-like replacement on the wings. The rumor mill featured the likes of Joao Cancelo, Marcos Alonso, Ivan Perisic and Dan Ndoye.

But as Tuttosport (via FcInterNews) explains, the Italian champions won’t be signing a wingback, but could instead bring in a new defender.

That’s because Simone Inzaghi will once again deploy Carlos Augusto in his original role on the left wing as a backup for Federico Dimarco.

The Brazilian has been recently serving as an understudy for Alessandro Bastoni in the left centre-back position.

Therefore, this change could prompt the arrival of a new defender, which might just be Hermoso.

The Spaniard is currently available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract with Atletico Madrid.

Signing Mario Hermoso For Free Could Be The Best Solution For Inter Milan

While Inter tried to sabotage Napoli’s plan by snatching Alessandro Buongiorno at the eleventh hour, their attempts proved futile.

Therefore, the Italian champions could turn their attention to Hermoso in what would be a more suitable operation, as the source tells it.

That’s because the 29-year-old would arrive for free, which would allow the club to pursue their other transfer targets.

This would mainly be Genoa striker Albert Gudmundsson who would cost circa 35 million euros.

Hence, signing Hermoso would allow Inter to bolster their backline while keeping their hopes of signing the Iceland star alive.

Otherwise, the Nerazzurri would have to sacrifice Valentin Carboni in order to raise funds.
