Inter Milan plan to keep Tomas Palacios in the squad during the January transfer window.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri will not loan the 21-year-old out despite a lack of playing time.
Inter signed defender Palacios during the summer transfer window.
The Nerazzurri identified the Argentine as a long-term solution at the back.
Inter paid a decent fee to bring in Palacios. They outlaid around €10 million for a player with no experience in European football.
That is a mark of the fact that Inter really do see Palacios as having the quality to be a potential future starter.
But so far there has been a long settling-in process for Palacios.
So far this season, Palacios has only made a couple of brief cameo appearances from the bench in Serie A.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has given the Argentine a chance to get a run-out. But it is clear that the coach does not yet trust Palacios to play in any consequential minutes.
That is not going to change this evening.
Inter face Udinese in the Coppa Italia round of sixteen. And Inzaghi will be rotating his team significantly, including handing Josep Martinez and Tajon Buchanan their first starts for Inter.
But Palacios will not be among the players to get a chance.
The 21-year-old will still be on the bench this evening.
Therefore, there have been some suggestions that Inter could decide to loan Palacios out next month.
That could give the Argentine the chance to get more playing time over the second half of the season.
However, according to Tuttosport, that is not Inter’s plan.
The Nerazzurri feel that Palacios can continue his development and adjusting to life in Italian football right where he is.
