On Sunday, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Aston Villa have agreed to take Asensio on loan. This move won’t impact Marcus Rashford’s potential loan to Villa, which could include an option to buy.

PSG are satisfied with this short-term arrangement, as the English club will cover Asensio’s full wages. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Villa will pay his salary in full until June, with PSG agreeing to a straight loan without a purchase option.

According to MARCA (h/t Le10Sport), Unai Emery is thrilled with the move. The former PSG coach had already tried to bring the Spanish international to Aston Villa in 2023 before he ended up at PSG. Emery believes Asensio would fit seamlessly into his system and plans to use him in the No. 10 role.

The big question now is whether Asensio can turn his career around after a disappointing spell at PSG. The 29-year-old reportedly turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and Qatar to stay in Europe.

Moreover, the report adds that he felt wanted at Aston Villa, which is why he chose this move. However, Asensio will return to PSG at the end of the season, as his loan to Villa doesn’t include a buy option.
