The postponed Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan can’t be played before Feburary of next year.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that a decision on a date won’t come before January.
Fiorentina and Inter’s Serie A match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi came to an abrupt and dramatic conclusion.
Viola midfielder Edoardo Bove collapsed during the first half. There was confusion and fear due to the 22-year-old’s serious medical emergency.
And naturally, none of the players wanted to continue the match after the shock. Nor did the coaching or refereeing staff.
Therefore, everyone quickly agreed on the decision to postpone the match.
The decision to put the match on hold certainly looked to be the right one considering the situation with Bove.
However, it does leave the teams in a difficult bind as far as making up the match.
Things came to a halt in the seventeenth minute of play.
And now the teams must find a date in which to play out the rest of the match.
As the saga with the rescheduling of a Serie A match between Bologna and AC Milan due to flood conditions has shown, this is not easy.
Both Bologna and Milan are in the Champions League, which has been a big factor there.
And Inter are also in the Champions League. Fiorentina, meanwhile, have European commitments of their own in the Europa Conference League.
Then, there is the start of Coppa Italia fixtures this month. And for Inter, January will bring the Supercoppa Italiana.
Therefore, both Inter and Fiorentina have packed fixture lists for the weeks to come.
As such, a free week will not arrive until February at the earliest.
So far, there has been no decision on a date for a makeup match. And it won’t arrive until January.
