Andoni Iraola is coming to Liverpool as new head coach - replacing Arne Slot.
And the Spaniard will provide a clean slate to all players on the books - offering the chance of a fresh start to those on the fringes.
Harvey Elliott for example may come in from the cold - and there will be extra chances for the likes of James McConnell and Trey Nyoni to impress.
Among that contingent was expected to be Stefan Bajcetic.
The 21-year-old hasn’t played for the Liverpool first team in over two years - owing to loan spells of varying degrees of success and several injury setbacks.
The Spain under-21 international is going to be finally fit for preseason - with it being an added bonus that so many contenders for a place in the team are away at the FIFA World Cup.
However Bajcetic - who joined from Celta Vigo in 2020 - is now being linked with an exit. David Lynch for Anfield Index claims that the tempo-setter has simply missed too much football and won’t be taking part in first-team activities.
“I think with Stefan, either a loan or a permanent move this summer,” he stated.
“I think permanent is on the table, just because he’s missed so much football. I don’t think Liverpool think he’s going to get to where they want him to be.
“But it could just be if there’s not enough interest in a permanent, they allow him to go on loan and create a market for himself that they can then cash in on down the line.
“I wouldn’t expect him to be involved with the first team at all.”
