Liverpool have been handed a massive boost ahead of the summer transfer window, with sporting director Richard Hughes expected to remain at the club.
According to talkSPORT, Liverpool have rebuffed interest from the Saudi Pro League (SPL) in their renowned talent-spotter, whose contract runs until the end of next season.
The Reds are gearing up for a crucial summer transfer window, and Hughes is expected to play a crucial role in their recruitment process.
Hughes is considered a primary target by Al-Hilal, and they’re not throwing in the towel despite Liverpool’s stance.
Al-Hilal are still optimistic about recruiting Hughes even if they have to wait until he runs out his contract at Anfield.
The desire to bring in the former Bournemouth director is reportedly driven by incoming majority owner Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud.
Prince Al Saud holds minority stake in Al-Hilal, but is poised to take more control of the club, and bringing in Hughes is a key part of his ambitious post-World Cup plans.
Hughes is already working closely with the chief executive of football, Michael Edwards, in preparing for what is considered a crucial summer transfer window.
After botching their Premier League title defence, Liverpool plan to bring in three or four fresh recruits as part of another squad rebuild.
Replacing Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson will be at the top of their to-do list this summer, with both players set to bring their near-decade spell at Anfield to a close.
Liverpool have already drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements for Salah, with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande firmly at the top of their wishlist.
The Reds spent a fortune to overhaul the squad last summer, paying over £400 million to bring in Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez.
Liverpool have already agreed a deal to sign Stade Rennais talent Jeremy Jacquet, who is a long-term replacement for captain Virgil van Dijk, while they’re still locked in contract talks with Ibrahim Konate.
