Richard Ríos has begun rehabilitation after the injury that forced him off in the clássico against Porto. According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica’s medical staff say a precise return date is hard to predict and the lay-off could be around four weeks, depending on his daily response to treatment.
The midfielder went off after 43 minutes in Wednesday’s Taça de Portugal quarter-final, which Benfica lost 1-0 to Porto, exiting the competition.
José Mourinho said post-match that Ríos had been limited before kick-off after days without training and the staff chose a conservative approach. He also highlighted the player’s combative mindset and focus on returning as soon as possible.
Benfica will monitor the recovery step by step, assessing workload and treatment response. Only clinical progress will determine a concrete return date, so alternative solutions will be needed in midfield.
This season Ríos has made 32 appearances for Benfica, 16 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 2,622 minutes he has scored three goals and provided two assists, and he is valued at 22 million euros.
