Robert Lewandowski hits historic milestone on Barcelona farewell

The striker Robert Lewandowski played his final game in a FC Barcelona shirt at Mestalla on Saturday night. It was not the farewell he would have hoped for in terms of result, as Barcelona were unable to close out the season with a win against Valencia, but the Polish forward still managed to leave his mark once again with a goal.

He opened the scoring in typical striker fashion, reacting quickest inside the box after Ferran Torres struck a powerful volley. The effort was heading wide, but Lewandowski showed his usual awareness in the right place at the right time to redirect the ball and give Barcelona the lead in what turned out to be his final goal for the club.

While fans will remember this last strike for emotional reasons, it also carried statistical weight. As SPORT has noted, the goal took the Pole to 120 goals in all competitions for Barcelona, equalling the record of Josep Escolà and moving him into the club’s top ten all-time scorers. He reached the milestone in 193 appearances, two more than Escolà needed to reach the same tally.

This final season did not match the numbers of his earlier campaigns in Barcelona, but he still ended with 19 goals and 4 assists in 46 matches across all competitions, playing 2,546 minutes and maintaining a strong scoring rate whenever called upon.

Across four seasons, Robert Lewandowski leaves Barcelona with a significant return both individually and collectively. He lifted seven trophies in that time, including three La Liga titles, three Spanish Super Cups, and one Copa del Rey, while also claiming the Pichichi Trophy in the 2022-23 season.

His 120 goal total places him above names such as Hristo Stoichkov, Luis Enrique, Neymar Jr, and Ronaldinho in the club’s all-time scoring list, although he remains far behind Lionel Messi, whose 672 goals continue to set the standard at the top of Barcelona history.

Around 400 travelling supporters at Mestalla acknowledged his contribution at full time, marking the end of an era for a striker who may not have finished with a victory, but still exits Barcelona with his place secured in the club’s history books.
