Robert Lewandowski is reportedly hoping to extend his stay at Barcelona until 2027, according to Sport.

While the reports continue to point towards the Polish striker’s potential departure when his contract expires next summer, the 37-year-old is looking to gain the Catalan club’s confidence and earn a short-term deal.

Lewandowski has established himself as a cornerstone of Barca’s attack since his move from Bayern Munich in 2022.

He has further strengthened his status as one of the most prolific strikers of all time by netting 105 goals and 20 assists in 154 games for Barca. He was also pivotal behind the La Liga titles in 2022/23 and 2024/25.

However, Lewandowski’s injury and fitness struggles this season have raised questions over his future. He missed the first game of the season against Mallorca with a hamstring issue and played with discomfort in the following games.

Manager Hansi Flick has been cautious with the former Bayern star’s game time, handing him only three starts in seven games.

Meanwhile, Ferran Torres has grown into a consistent performer for the Catalan giants. He has repaid Flick’s trust by scoring four goals and providing an assist, picking up from where he left off last season.

Provided the Spanish forward’s rich vein of form and Lewandowski’s declining age, Barca are planning for a future without the Polish international and want to invest in a high-profile centre-forward in the next summer transfer window.

However, Lewandowski has the desire to extend his stay at Barca for a little longer as he believes he can still perform at the highest level.

Despite his reduced role, Lewandowski has stepped up in big moments this season, such as his goals against Real Oviedo and Real Sociedad in impressive comeback victories.

He has bagged a total of four goals in six La Liga games, only Julian Alvarez (6) and Kylian Mbappe (8) have scored more than him.

Lewandowski is aware that he needs to keep his scoring form intact to convince the Blaugrana of a renewal.

His influence extends beyond goals and assists, as he has been praised for his role in the development of young players in the team.

Lewandowski has moved to the top 20 of Barca’s all-time scorers list (105 goals) with his winning strike against Sociedad last night, tied with Neymar, Evaristo and Zaldua.

The former Borussia Dortmund man turned down a lucrative proposal from the Saudi Pro League earlier this summer to continue at Barca.

He will be looking to make a big impact against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.
