Roberto Martinez has not ruled out Cristiano Ronaldo featuring at the 2030 World Cup, saying the Portugal captain’s hunger could keep him in contention despite being 41 now and 45 by then.

"We've come to a conclusion: I believe Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't play to win a specific title, either collectively or individually. His secret isn't what he eats, it's his hunger," he told El Larguero.

"He will fight for it. I think no one should doubt that, at least he has earned that right."

Portugal will co-host the 2030 finals with Spain and Morocco, making a home tournament an alluring prospect for the national icon.

Asked about links with Real Madrid as his deal runs to the next World Cup, Martinez sidestepped the speculation, joking: "There is no network in Portugal".

Ronaldo said in November 2025 that 2026 would be his final World Cup, while acknowledging he was not entirely certain.
